Responses to the Gospel
Thirty years ago, when my wife shared with me that we were going to have our first baby, I was thrilled… a little anxious, but definitely thrilled. Obviously we were both excited that we would be bringing a precious life into the world; but we were also a little apprehensive, knowing that our lives were about to change in a big way! Everyone had told us that having kids will “change your life.” After raising three, we totally get it!
There is also something else that will radically change your life… making the decision to surrender your life to Christ. When you choose to follow Jesus - to embrace the gospel - it is truly life changing! People respond to that message in different ways.
In the book of Acts, we are learning how important it was for the gospel to be shared around the known world. In Acts 17, we see Paul and Silas on their missionary journey, sharing the Good News in Thessalonia, Berea, and Athens. The life-changing message they were sharing was news to people, so they got a lot of different responses. In fact, in this chapter, we see at least four responses to the gospel.
How do people tend to respond to the gospel? As we dig into this chapter, we see some who are persuaded with proof and explanation; and others who are offended and cause a lot of chaos. We see some who trust, but want to verify what they’re hearing; and others who are searching for a religion, but who desperately need a relationship! Chances are that you or someone close to you, maybe a friend or family member, has responded to the gospel in the same ways. This message will really help you to understand how people respond to the life-changing Good News!
