A trusting heart
Trust matters in relationships! In fact, I could argue that “trust” is the most vital characteristic for any healthy relationship. What happens if there is no trust in your relationships at work, or with your family, or your team, or in your friendships, or in your marriage? If trust is broken, the relationship is in trouble, until trust is regained over time. Trust matters in our relationship with God too! The great news is that you can trust God completely; He will never let you down!
Maybe you are struggling to trust God in your life. What is trust, how do you trust God and what will that look like in your life? One definition I read for trust is “a bold, confident, sure security or action based on that security.” Trust could be viewed differently than faith in that trust is the action produced by faith. So how can I trust God? I surrender control of my life to Him! Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us what that looks like.
Fully rely on God. 5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Proverbs 3:5a. God is not looking for a half-hearted reliance. He wants all my heart!
Put foolish instincts aside. lean not on your own understanding; Proverbs 3:5b. I am going to trust God even when I don’t understand or it doesn’t make perfect sense to me. That doesn’t mean I’ll be reckless, but I will lean on Him, not myself.
Submit to God’s leadership. 6 in all your ways submit to him, Proverbs 5:6a Some people are willing to submit to God in some, or select areas of life, but not all areas. God is not looking for me to commit some of my ways to Him… He wants all!
When I am willing to surrender control of my life to God, with my actions (trust), then God makes a promise… Life will work best! he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:6b. That doesn’t mean life will be perfect - this is not heaven; but when I trust God, life will be far less crazy, curvy and treacherous! Are you willing to surrender control of your life to Him? If so, it starts with a commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. (Romans 3:23). Christ restores our broken relationship with our perfect God. 25 God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. Romans 3:25. Through Christ, we are “at-one” with God. (Romans 10:9). Then He offers leadership for your life as Master and Lord. (John 8:31-32)
When I have a trusting heart, committed to Christ, it will be revealed in how I view my treasures. I will give in the way God’s Word teaches - generously, cheerfully, faithfully, and sacrificially. My trusting heart will also be revealed in how I view my troubles, depending on Christ to pull me through! (Matthew 11:28-30).
