People are unique!

Most of you probably spent some time this past Sunday evening hanging out with friends and family watching the Super Bowl. What a great game! Lots of folks hung out together at Watermark watching the game and enjoying some delicious food!

Why do people enjoy getting together and hanging out? Because we were made for that! We were created to live in community with others. We were not made to do life alone or in isolation. (18 The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. Genesis 2:18a) We are created to live in community with one another and with God!

This past Sunday, during our Essentials series, we learned what the Bible teaches us about people. Here is what we believe about “people”: People are created in the spiritual image of God. People are the supreme object of God's love. Although every person has tremendous potential for good, all of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience toward God called "sin." Sin separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Being created in God’s image means we are different from everything else in creation. God created us in His “likeness” mentally, morally and socially; that is we can think and reason, we have a moral compass, and we long for community! Unique from all else in creation, we are “intimately” created by God, which illustrates His supreme love for us! (Genesis 2:7). God clearly created us to love Him and to be loved by Him. As much as we want to be good and strive to be good, sometimes we blow it. Our failures separate us from our perfect God and cause us to struggle in life. So, what happened? How did we get here? For so much more, listen online to Essentials Part 5 - People.
