What did Jesus come to do?

On Sunday at Watermark, we asked the question, "What did Jesus come to do?" That question could be answered in lots of ways, but we answered it by considering the events of what happened during this monumental week. No doubt, Jesus came to do at least three things...

1) Jesus came to rescue you. (Triumphant Entry - John 12:12-19). The crowd gathered in Jerusalem celebrated Jesus as he rode into town on a lowly beast of burden. They were expecting a warrior King, but Jesus hadn’t come to rescue them from the burden of Rome; He had come to rescue them from the burden of sin. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 1 John 4:14

2) Jesus came to serve you. (Washing the Disciples’ Feet - John 13:1-17). Jesus served us, even to the point of death on a cross. But on the evening before His death, He offered a remarkable illustration of service by washing the feet of His disciples. 15 I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you....17 Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them. Jesus came to serve and to model service. Do you serve others like Jesus?

3) Jesus came to redeem you. (Prediction of Judas’ Betrayal - John 13:18-27 and Last Supper Luke - 22:14-20). Jesus knew that Judas would betray Him. The truth is that we have all betrayed God with our disobedience, our poor choices, our sin. But the great news for us is that our perfect, loving God didn’t want to be separated from us because of our sin, so He sent Jesus to redeem us - pay the ransom for our sin. 13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Ephesians 2:13

My prayer for you this week is that you will be brought near to God... that you will pause, reflect and thank God for His love for you! (John 3:16-17).
