Who are you?

Who are you? How do you define or “identify” yourself? We might find our identity in lots of ways… physically, vocationally, educationally, relationally… You get the picture. But the truth is, we make a mistake when we identify ourselves first and foremost, vocationally (we might lose our jobs); or physically (our physique will change); or educationally (we will graduate, hopefully); again, you get the picture. My primary identity must be in Jesus Christ! Does your identity in Christ matter most to you?

Why does that matter so much? Because, when I define myself primarily in Christ, not in ways culture might prefer, everything I do and everything I am stems from that! Being in Christ matters for everything that I do and every role I play in life, especially my family life… the decisions I make, the role model I am, the way I handle myself, the impression I make, and the mark I leave.

Over the next six weeks, we will be walking through the book of Ephesians to discover some tools and truths to fix our broken families. As the Apostle Paul opens his letter to the believers in Ephesus, and to us, he reminds us of some amazing truths about who we are “in Christ.” Ephesians 1 tells us that we are immeasurably blessed, in Christ! Praise for Spiritual Blessings in Christ. Ephesians 1:2b. What is our response to the blessings God offers us, in Christ?… Worship Him! He is worthy of our praise and worship daily. Will you take the time to worship God daily for the blessings He offers you in Christ?

Through the first chapter of Ephesians, Paul tells us how blessed we are, in Christ! (Eph. 1:3). You may not “feel” blessed when life is not going your way, especially in your home, but you are! How are you and I blessed?

- God chose us to be holy and blameless… in Christ! (Eph. 1:4)

- God’s amazing grace is available to us… in Christ! (Eph 1:5-6)

- God’s grace is poured out on us… in Christ. (Eph. 1:7-8).

- We can be redeemed right now… in Christ! (Eph. 1:9-10)

- We have hope of salvation… in Christ! (Eph. 1:11-14)

- We are made powerful and strong… in Christ! (Eph. 1:18-23)

I don’t know what challenges you are facing in your family these days, but I want you to know and believe that “in Christ” you are blessed!
