Cure for disillusionment

May 25, 2018

Life is filled with hopes and dreams… But sometimes, in case you haven’t noticed, life doesn’t always work out the way you hoped and dreamed it would.  When that happens, you may get disillusioned.  The dictionary defines disillusionment this way - “a feeling of disappointment resulting from the discovery that something is not as good as one believed it to be.”  Disillusionment can cause alot of pain and heartache.

Sarah and Abram, (later Abraham) longed for a child of their very own.  God had promised to “make him into a great nation.”  (Genesis 12:2)  There was just one big problem.  They were 75 years old and Sarah was barren.  So, they were left waiting, feeling hopeless.  They didn’t want to wait, so they decided to take matters into their own hands.  That decision created some serious problems for them and their relationship.  But God keeps His promises!  After 25 years of waiting, God tells them they would have a son.  One year later, Issac is born.  God changes Abram’s name to Abraham, meaning “father of a multitude.”.

For Abraham and Sarah, there seemed to be no earthly hope God would deliver on His promise.  But with God, there is real hope.  The antidote to disillusionment is hope!  In biblical hope there is “no doubt about it!”   19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19   Are you are feeling disillusioned today?  Will you trust God?  Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5-6.

Submit means “yield to”.  Are you willing submit to the Lord’s leadership in all areas of your life.  Are there any areas that are off limits to Him?  Are you out in front of God, unwilling to wait?  Find your hope in Him!  Submit to His leadership.  Believe that He is at work in your life!  For much more, listen to My Imperfect Family, Part 2 - Disillusionment.
